These reproductions are supplied exclusively to Round Wood Trading following the decision to commission and develop a design that, whilst remaining portable and practical, does justice to the original Moai Heads on Rapa Nui.*** This has been achieved through casting and sculpting with a frost-proof, malleable concrete and fibreglass composite that allows for a thick layer to be crafted around a hollow mould.*** The result is a range of Giant Easter Island Statues, (including the largest available on a non bespoke basis at 126cm), that weigh less than their smaller reconstituted stone/concrete counterparts. It is widely believed that the inhabitants of the Polynesian Island of Rapa Nui, (Easter Island), carved 'Moai Statues', or Easter Island Heads, between 1250 and 1500 to commemorate their ancestors. The first European to lay eyes on one of the imposing figures - described as heads given their disproportionate appearance - was the Dutch explorer Roggeveen in 1722. When Captain Cook landed just over 50 years later, many had been toppled. **** These desktop reproductions are exclusive to Round Wood.
